Let’s take a hike is a fun, family friendly hiking book for anyone planning an adventure to nantucket (one of my favorite places to visit year round, but especially in the summer).

But this book is about so much more - especially for those of us who often feel trapped in our urban environments. There is a great big world out there to explore and new communities to be formed. I always call the wildnerness "the great equalizer. " it doesn't care who we are, what we look like, or from where we came. Derick lugo's voice is an important one because he will inspire a whole new generation of young people who may not always fit the mold of "traditional" hikers and backpackers. Even if you have no interest in the outdoors, pick up a copy of derick's book and read it as a pure adventure story. You may not know a trekking pole from a jetboil stove, but all of us can recognize a little bit of ourselves in the human drama that unfolds over the course of nearly 2,200 miles.

we summitted san jacinto from the south side this time by taking the devil’s slide trail (in humber park) that leads into pct trail that leads all the way to the summit. The trail starts around 6,400 ft and snow appears around 8,000 ft so microspikes were needed to cross snow patches in the last 2,000 ft to the summit. Snow is compact with strong footholds so ice axe was not needed. Enjoy this scenic trail.
